The South Africa Collectors’ Society is concerned with the philately of South Africa including both the 1910-61 Union Period and the Republic period from 1961 onwards plus the philately of South West Africa and Namibia. It is based in the UK, but has members worldwide. Membership starts from as little as £10 per year. Follow this link to the S.A.C.S. website
The Springbok is the publication of the society and is produced four times a year. It contains a mixture of society news and philatelic articles. Our society is very active with regular meetings in London, Carlisle & Letchworth. Since 2013 we have held an annual two day meeting in The Midlands. It is well attended with a number of members turning up every years for what is a very enjoyable weekend.
In 2010 the society reflected the milestone of the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the Union of South Africa by hosting a major exhibition at the Spring Stampex held in London. Many members loaned parts of their collections to form a magnificent display of philatelic material covering the whole 51 years of the Union of South Africa in over 140 exhibition frames.
Once a year a number of our members take part in the Annual Southern Africa Philatelic Conference held in Meriden, usually during the second weekend in November. The attendees bring many interesting displays, shown across the Saturday and Sunday. We also have some dealers in attendance. It is always a very pleasant and relaxed way to spend a weekend.
Unfortunately the 2021 event won’t go ahead due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, but we hope to back in 2022.
2012 saw the tenth anniversary of the Conference, displays included a magnificent showing of the London Pictorials, a staggering assembly of the 1910 Union stamp on cover, plus displays of Bechuanaland, C.S.A.R., South West Africa postal history and advertising covers from South Africa. We also witnessed a signing of the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists of South Africa and held our annual bumper Conference auction.
